Beaches in ischia

Citara Beach
This is one of the bigger beaches on the island, just outside the town of Forio.  There are rocks around the ends of this beach that can be good for snorkelling. It’s accessed from the main road and has a good selection of car parks, as well as plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops to keep you entertained.

At Citara you’ll find a mixture of beaches owned by restaurants or bars where you have to pay for a sunbed and umbrella etc, as well as a couple of free beaches. You can find also here Poseidon Thermal Gardens which is one of the best Ischia’s thermal parks.

Cava dell’Isola Beach
Cava dell’Isola could be described as a ‘fun’ beach as the people that go there tend to be on the young side and play volleyball or bat and ball games, lots of singing and music as well and the whole beach is completely free of charge. It’s a beautiful place for a spot of snorkelling with lots of little caves and rock-pools to discover.

The beach can be found walking from Forio town centre, along a very pleasant esplanade frequented by walkers and joggers. From the harbour area, walk towards Chiesa del Soccorso, under the tunnel and then turn right at Hotel Nettuno de Charme. Follow this road all the way as it then turns left and straightens out. After 10-15 minutes you will reach the Hotel Terme Providence on the left and the entrance to Cava dell’Isola beach is directly opposite.

This a beautiful beach that is for everyone but many young people go here.

Chiaia Beach
Chiaia beach is right near the town center of Forio, is probably the most easy to reach, the water is clean and not very deep so is very good for children. The water at Chiaia is quite shallow in places and this makes it a popular destination for families with children or for people who are not particularly strong swimmers.

Chiaia is also one of the largest beaches in Ischia, most sections are owned by bars where you can hire beds and parasols, but there is also a large free section.

San Francesco Beach
San Francesco is a medium-sized beach in Forio, great for families, young and older people alike. Close by are rocks and caves which make it an ideal spot for snorkelling or even hiring canoes or pedaloes.

There are a mixture of free and pay beaches as well as a selection of restaurants and bars to choose from, all within easy walking distance of each other. Access is from a choice of two roads that lead down to the beach where you can also find car parks and taxi ranks.

San Montano Beach
This is definitely a beach for young people.  It is located near Lacco Ameno, which is a very pretty village and is home to Negombo (see Attractions for details)

Maronti Beach
Maronti is an amazing beach located opposite side of the island to Forio.  It is one of the longest beaches on Ischia.
